Question 1

What does a wavetable do?

Accepted Answer

A wavetable stores a series of single-cycle waveforms that a synthesizer scans through while a note plays. Instead of one static tone, the sound morphs between frames, which is what gives wavetable synthesis its characteristic movement. Fizform generates 256 of these frames per table, each 2048 samples long.

Question 2

Is Fizform really free?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Fizform is completely free with no signup, no email capture, and no watermarks. Everything runs locally in your browser, so nothing you create is uploaded anywhere. You can generate and download as many wavetables as you like, and every exported WAV is yours to keep.

Question 3

Which synths can load Fizform wavetables?

Accepted Answer

Any synth that imports standard 2048-samples-per-frame wavetable WAV files. Serum and Serum 2 load them via drag and drop, Vital imports them through its wavetable editor, and Phase Plant reads them directly. Hardware samplers like the MPC line work too once the frames are mapped.

Question 4

Does Fizform contain samples from the Ensoniq Fizmo?

Accepted Answer

No. Fizform contains no samples, ROM data, or copied wavetables from any hardware. Every table is synthesized mathematically in your browser from ten original character families inspired by the Fizmo's sound aesthetic - vocal formants, metallic bells, stepped grooves, and evolving transwaves - so the results are original material.

Question 5

Can I use the exported wavetables in commercial music?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Wavetables you generate are royalty-free for your own sounds, songs, and client productions, including commercial releases. What you cannot do without written permission is sell or redistribute the wavetables themselves - for example as a wavetable or sample pack - or copy and re-host the Fizform tool.

Question 6

How is Fizform different from the wavetable editor in Serum?

Accepted Answer

Serum's editor is built for drawing and editing frames by hand. Fizform is a generator: it creates complete 256-frame tables from synthesis recipes, so you start from finished, musical material instead of a blank canvas. Many producers use both - generate in Fizform, then fine-tune inside Serum.
